In Deep, Jim Mancinelli's second book of poetry, is already on its second printing. It looks inward, exploring themes of nature and faith. Many of his observations capture the beauty and amazement of everyday things and the human condition reflected in ordinary moments. This is a beautiful collection which both celebrates and studies all life.

Reborn at fifty, Jim Mancinelliis a jazz-hound with Baroque ears, Beat eyes, and a touch of Zeppelin for color. He lives in Philadelphia with his partner Dave and fond memories of Potter the Blind Bird Dog.

Mancinelli has published in Sea Change, the Schuylkill Valley Journal for the Arts, and in NOW! (then), a poetry anthology comprised of poets who have read for the Eternal NOW! poetry series at Robin’s Bookstore. He has been a featured reader for Poets + Prophets, Giovanni’s Room, and at Robin’s Bookstore for the Eternal Now! Poetry Series in Philadelphia. Jim represented Robin’s Bookstore’s Eternal Now! Poetry Series at the 2nd Annual Philadelphia Poetry Festival at the Central Library.

Primer, his first chapbook is self-published; along with two poetic political broadsides, A Bundle of Sticks, and A Proud Son Writes Home, which are self-published indictments of the Bush administration’s policies and the oppression of the GLBT community. Currently, he has two-ongoing series of poems: one informed by the work of a true trip-master, Salvador Dali, and the other a series on aging, which continue to grow in number.

Mancinelli is a Speech-Language Pathologist and is the University Clinical Coordinator in La Salle University’s Speech-Language-Hearing Science Program in Philadelphia, PA.

Channeling Rumi

At the edge of the world is a place where I am whole.
My limbs are not twisted into mathematical shapes
and my eyes are for seeing.
I am a creature of such beauty that my breath is the fire of stars
and my sex is the bliss of clear light.

At the edge of the world is a place of quiet acceptance.
My face is not contorted in anger, and I have integrated the holes.
I am a creature of such wisdom that my thoughts are empty
and my heart is full.

At the edge of the world is a place of tranquility.
My soul is at rest and my love moves outward.
I am a creature of purity and all of my being is stretched
to cover the earth and sky.

At the edge of the world I will spread my arms
and gather the universe into a perfect breath.
Only then will I know the mind of the still lily
and the peace of the Anointed.
